As the 90-day buffer period for the United States’ reciprocal tariffs nears its end, the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan released its 2025 Taiwan White Paper on Tuesday.
The report states that the new and proposed U.S. tariffs on Taiwanese goods are unfair to Taiwan, a trusted democratic partner. It warns that the measures will raise costs for American businesses and consumers and could send mixed signals about the U.S.-Taiwan relationship. The Chamber urges the U.S. government to adjust its policies to align with strategic goals such as boosting industrial competitiveness and strengthening economic partnerships.
The report also highlights Taiwan’s opportunity to enhance its role in the global supply chain and lead in strategic industries amid rising geopolitical risks. It calls on Taiwan’s government to work more closely with industry, strengthen social resilience, modernize regulations, and plan ahead for future industrial development.
Chamber Chairperson Dan Silver stated that historically, Taiwan and the United States have addressed concerns and resolved issues through dialogue and negotiation, resulting in mutually beneficial outcomes. He added that since April, both sides have continued discussions, and the Chamber is hopeful they will ultimately achieve a better outcome.
