Taiwan’s Economic Ministry drew strong interest during its visit to Sweden, engaging Swedish lawmakers and deepening political and economic ties between the two countries.

Deputy Minister Cynthia Kiang (江文若) led a delegation from June 2 to 4 and co-chaired the 41st Taiwan-Sweden Joint Business Council Meeting (JBC) with Swedish State Secretary for Foreign Trade, Håkan Jevrell. Discussions covered a wide range of topics, including energy policy, green transition, circular economy, intellectual property rights, and the startup ecosystem.

Kiang also accepted an invitation from the Swedish-Taiwanese Parliamentarian Association (STPA) to deliver a keynote address titled “Taiwan and Sweden Jointly Build Resilient Supply Chains.” Chair of the Committee on Industry and Trade Tobias Andersson praised Taiwan’s dynamic economy and impressive performance, calling Taiwan a key economic and trade partner for Sweden.

Kiang underscored Taiwan’s critical role in global supply chains, the development strategy of its five key industries, and the country’s policy responses to today’s economic uncertainties. She also held in-depth discussions with cross-party lawmakers and parliamentary advisors on Taiwan’s energy policy and semiconductor deployment.

The visit also included stops at Swedish 5G communications leader Ericsson and major foreign investor SHL Medical. Kiang expressed hopes for continued and expanded collaboration between Taiwan and Sweden in both the telecom and biotech sectors.
