After a ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Office this Thursday, President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo engaged in extensive bilateral talks to deepen their nations’ strategic partnership. The discussions centered on promoting increased Taiwanese business investment in Guatemala and developing mutually beneficial industrial cooperation models that utilize Guatemala’s strategic geographic position and natural resources.

During the meeting, the two presidents signed a letter of intent regarding collaboration in the semiconductor industry. The leaders also observed their foreign ministers signing an MOU to establish political consultation mechanisms, marking significant institutional progress in bilateral relations.

President Lai emphasized that these partnerships would enhance supply chain resilience and foster more strategically significant relationships between the two nations. President Arévalo conveyed Guatemala's deep appreciation for Taiwan's collaboration in critical sectors, describing the visit as the beginning of a new and dynamic phase in bilateral relations. He underscored the semiconductor vocational training program jointly developed by both countries as historically significant and a vital first step for Guatemala's technological advancement.

Arévalo detailed plans to strengthen existing cooperation mechanisms while examining new collaborative avenues, all grounded in mutual respect, trust, solidarity, and shared universal values of peace, freedom, democracy, and human rights.
