The Foreign Ministry congratulated the Australian and Singaprean governments on the successful completion of their elections. Australia’s elections were held Saturday, April 3, and saw the ruling Labor party once again win the majority in Parliament. Singapore’s elections were also held Saturday, and saw Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and the People’s Action Party (PAP) regain their supermajority.
Regarding Australia, the ministry pointed out that they have demonstrated strong support for Taiwan over the years, in addition to their mutual display of respect for the values of democracy, freedom, rule of law, and human rights. In August of 2024, the Australian Senate passed an urgent motion to condemn China’s interpretation of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 in a bipartisan show of support for Taiwan. Bilateral relations with the nation have continued to steadily grow with cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, energy, overall social resilience, and technology and cybersecurity.
Singapore and Taiwan have always been friendly, according to the Foreign Ministry, especially including close technology exchanges. With bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, culture, semiconductors, and science and technology, relations have only continued to grow stronger.
On behalf of the Taiwanese government, the Foreign Ministry extends its sincere congratulations for the completion of two successful elections. They emphasized that the government looks forward to continuing to deepen cooperation with both countries across various fields, based on the existing steady foundation of partnership, and jointly promoting the values of peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
