Palau’s national baseball team got a major-league celebrity surprise during their training in Taiwan.
The Palau national baseball team recently arrived in Taiwan for off-site training. On Monday, they visited the National Taiwan University of Sport, where a major league coach gave them a hands-on pitching lesson.
Former New York Yankees ace and a Taiwan national hero, Chien-Ming Wang (王建民), personally demonstrated pitching techniques and closely observed the players’ form.
Wearing his iconic pinstriped jersey, Wang’s presence surely brought back childhood memories for many. Although baseball isn’t a mainstream sport in Palau, it still draws a passionate following. The players stayed focused during practice, but once training ended, they all turned into fans—lining up one by one with baseballs in hand, eager for Coach Wang’s autograph.
With the World Baseball Classic coming up next year, fans are wondering if Wang will once again join the coaching staff. While he said he hasn’t received any official notice yet, he did express interest in participating.
Still, baseball fans are already excited at the thought of seeing the “golden coaching team” reunite for the Classic.
