As United States President Donald Trump marks his first 100 days in office, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick visited TSMC’s semiconductor fabrication plant in Arizona on Tuesday. The Commerce Department stated that this visit highlights the Trump administration’s commitment to ushering in the “Golden Age of American Manufacturing.”
In a press release, Secretary Lutnick highlighted the significance of TSMC's investment in the United States. TSMC Chairman C. C. Wei (魏哲家) welcomed Lutnick and showcased the recent progress on TSMC's third fabrication plant in Arizona. The facility aims to enhance the advanced semiconductor capacity in the United States, supporting the country’s leadership in smartphones, high-performance computing, and artificial intelligence.
For the first 100 days of Trump's administration, the department collaborated with global industry leaders to boost investments in U.S. production, particularly in aluminum and semiconductors. The Investment Accelerator Program has made substantial progress, highlighted by the construction of TSMC's third plant in Arizona. TSMC's major customers have expressed enthusiasm about this development.
TSMC’s largest customer, Apple CEO Tim Cook, stated they are looking forward to the innovation in the U.S. and the opportunities it will create. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) noted that AI is transforming technology architecture, with Nvidia’s AI supercomputers as the foundation. AMD Chairperson and CEO Lisa Su (蘇姿丰) emphasized the long-standing partnership with TSMC, demonstrating how they collaborate to deliver advanced technologies that drive the future of computing.
