Taiwan’s pavilion at the 2025 Osaka Expo, titled “Tech World,” officially launched on Tuesday. The pavilion features themed theaters focused on life, nature, and the future, offering visitors an immersive multimedia experience that highlights Taiwan’s technological innovation and vision for the future.
To promote Taiwan’s tourism, each visitor is lent a smartwatch upon entry. The device generates a personalized heartbeat graph and a customized travel itinerary, presented through an AI-generated video, creating a unique and interactive journey through the pavilion.
At the opening ceremony, the Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau’s (OCTB) Director of the Sales Department Imura Goro expressed admiration for Taiwan’s cutting-edge semiconductor technology and the innovative smartwatch experience. He also showcased a souvenir luggage tag shaped like Taiwan’s beloved bubble tea, adorned with patterns representing semiconductors, butterflies, and the iconic Taipei 101.
According to the OCTB, this year’s Expo aims to inspire the public to reflect on pressing global challenges—including poverty, war, and environmental crises. The Bureau emphasized that participating nations and organizations share a common goal: to contribute to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and find solutions through collective wisdom.
The World Expo was first held in Asia in 1970, also in Osaka, and returns to the city 55 years later. The 2025 Osaka Expo will run for six months, from April 13 to October, with pavilions located on Yumeshima, an artificial island in Osaka Bay. The event is expected to draw approximately 28 million visitors, including 3.5 million international tourists, and generate an estimated economic impact of around 2.9 trillion Japanese Yen (US$20.65 billion).
