Deemed one of the world’s must-visit festivals by international media such as Discovery and CNN, the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival takes place this week in Taiwan.

Two snake-shaped lanterns set the stage for the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival this week as tourists from across Taiwan and across the world gathered at the Shifen Sky Lantern Square in New Taipei City. Waves of 150 small sky lanterns carried people’s wishes off into the night sky, burning brightly despite the rain.
Traveling from afar to take part in the annual festival, some foreign tourists spoke about why they came, and what they wished for.
A drizzle washed over the area in the afternoon, more or less affecting the event, but many travelers were equipped with raincoats, umbrellas, and an optimistic outlook as they released their wishes towards the sky, undeterred by the weather.
