Tainan’s annual two-day Yanshui Beehive Fireworks Festival kicked off Tuesday night with a bang, drawing both thrill-seekers and tourists eager to
witness the explosive spectacle. Participants dressed in full protective gear enjoyed the sensation of being blasted by bee firecrackers while other spectators scrambled to find shelter.
The festival began at the Yanshui Wu Temple with a palanquin procession for peace with Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) lighting firecrackers in the morning to officially launch the event.
The main event is scheduled at 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Tainan Municipal Yanshui Junior High School sports field. The palanquin procession will travel through the Yanshui District along five routes, with around 200 firecracker packs being set off along the way. The main firecracker tower will then be lit for participants to experience the thrill of running through the beehive firecrackers. Those struck by the fireworks are said to be released from bad luck and blessed for the coming year.
The Tainan City Government also recommends event visitors to visit the nearby Yuejin Harbor Lantern Festival for a memorable festival experience.
