February 8 officially marked the first day of the cherry blossom season. Despite the cold weather this past weekend, throngs of people gathered at hotspots in central Taiwan to take in the view.
Cherry blossom season has begun at Wuling Farm in Taichung. Despite the chilly weather and makeup day on Saturday, early risers still flocked to the park to catch the stunning flowers. Bundled in hats and scarves, park guests posed for photos against beautiful pink backdrops.
Some guests noted that this year’s blossoms are a bit slower to bloom, likely due to persistently cool temperatures. About 50 percent of the park’s cherry blossoms were in bloom on the first day of the season. According to Wuling Farm’s deputy director, the Pink Lady and Showa varieties are currently still in bud but will open as soon as the weather turns warm.
Nantou County’s cherry blossom trees are starting to bloom, as well. Both pink and white cherry blossoms can be admired here, complementing each other in a lovely profusion of color.
