The 2025 Taiwan Lantern Festival will kick off in Taoyuan on Wednesday evening, and one of the highlights of the exhibition is a collection of lanterns from Sapporo City designed by Taiwanese lantern artist Lee Chin-yun (李青芸).
These lantern artworks draw inspiration from the snowy landscapes of Sapporo, transforming the city’s iconic landmarks and destinations into beautiful lantern displays that evoke the feeling of a winter day.
According to a press release from the City of Sapporo, the lantern designs feature familiar sights like the Sapporo Clock Tower, skiing snowmen, white cherry blossom trees, and the Jozankei Onsen in the city’s suburbs, all recreating a wintry atmosphere. The exhibition aims to introduce the charm of Sapporo to Taiwanese audiences as they enjoy the Lantern Festival.
The Transportation Ministry’s Tourism Administration has stated that over 300 lantern artworks will be on display during the festival. Attendees will also have the chance to participate in the traditional lantern riddle game and answer quizzes to win limited-edition prizes and souvenirs such as tote bags and Taiwan black bear cup sleeves.
