The German media Der Tagesspiegel recently published a report discussing countries worth migrating to amid the rise of far-right politics in Europe. Among them, Taiwan stands out as the representative from Asia.
The report pointed out that in recent years, far-right political parties advocating for stricter immigration policies have rapidly risen in several European countries, leading to a shrinking pool of democratic countries available for migration. In light of this trend, Der Tagesspiegel lists Iceland, Canada, Uruguay, and Taiwan as recommended destinations for migration, all of which remain open and stable.
The report highlighted that Taiwan is renowned for its night market cuisine, the hospitality and friendliness of its people, and its political freedom. Additionally, Taiwan was the first country in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage, demonstrating its strong commitment to human rights and diversity.
The report further mentioned Taiwan's immigration policy, which is particularly friendly to international professionals, offering the Taiwan Employment Gold Card, a three-year work visa for experts in fields such as technology and the digital industry.
Taiwan also offers a high quality of life, with its well-developed infrastructure, including a nationwide railway network with punctual trains, convenient public transportation, a modern healthcare system, and a cost of living more affordable than in Germany, making it an attractive choice for migration.
However, the report also advises that choosing to move to Taiwan requires a certain sense of adventure, as China’s communist regime continues to threaten Taiwan with war and occasional blockades. However, this situation has persisted since 1949 without any significant dangerous conflicts actually occurring.
