The Defense Ministry reported on Thursday that Chinese military activity in the Taiwan Strait persisted during the Lunar New Year period, with airspace violations and naval maneuvers heightening security concerns.
Between 6 a.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday, Taiwan’s military detected six Chinese aircraft, including three that crossed the Taiwan Strait’s median line, entering Taiwan’s northern and southwestern airspace. Additionally, five Chinese naval vessels were observed operating near Taiwan’s surrounding waters.
In addition to military aircraft and naval operations, the ministry confirmed the presence of three suspected Chinese spy balloons detected on Wednesday. The balloons were spotted 50 to 75 nautical miles northwest of Taichung before disappearing later in the evening.
The ministry emphasized that Taiwan’s armed forces remain on high alert and are actively monitoring the situation. In response to these incursions, the military has deployed mission aircraft, naval vessels, and land-based missile systems to track and respond to any potential threats.
