President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) met with a bipartisan delegation led by legislative speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) on Thursday ahead of their attendance at the 60th U.S. Presidential Inauguration. The delegation includes lawmakers from the KMT, DPP, and TPP parties.

During the meeting, President Lai emphasized that despite domestic political competition, Taiwan must remain united in international affairs, particularly in strengthening Taiwan-U.S. relations.

The President assigned the delegation three key tasks: conveying the Taiwanese people's sincere congratulations, demonstrating Taiwan's firm commitment to democracy, and establishing new milestones in Taiwan-U.S. relations. He noted the significance of the U.S. inauguration's theme, "Our Enduring Democracy: A Constitutional Commitment," and its alignment with Taiwan's democratic values.

In response, speaker Han outlined the four pillars of supporting Taiwan’s security: protecting the Republic of China, safeguarding democracy and freedom, maintaining Taiwan-U.S. relations, and preserving cross-strait peace. A cordial atmosphere was maintained during the meeting between the president and the legislative speaker, marking a positive step in democratic cooperation.
