The Defense Ministry released a video statement on Friday addressing recent large-scale Chinese military activities spanning the first and second island chains. It says that China has long sought to intimidate the region and disrupt the existing international order.
According to the Defense Ministry, since 2022 China’s strategy has continued to evolve from direct intimidation of Taiwan to focusing on the first island chain. It says China’s latest exercises involving a large concentration of surface naval forces are evidence of its ambitions. To counter these threats, Taiwan’s armed forces are enhancing their readiness, building their defensive capabilities, and strengthening alliances with like-minded nations to deter war.
The ministry emphasizes that the armed forces will adjust their response strategies based on the dynamics of enemy movements and conduct realistic combat exercises tailored to specific scenarios. It says Taiwan’s armed forces will focus on building capabilities and maintaining steadfast resolve, adding that service members are confident in safeguarding national security.
