In previous years, the New Taipei Fire Department’s highly anticipated calendars brought the heat by featuring their firefighters, but 2025’s addition of working dogs is expected to be even more popular.
A press release was held on Monday to promote the New Taipei Fire Department’s 2025 calendar featuring firefighters and working canines.
The public watched as firefighters showed off their talents, from martial arts to physical prowess to dance. However, the greatest crowd-pleaser was Labrador retriever K-9 Fuxing, Taiwan’s first bloodstain detection dog. Fuxing not only helped solve a 2018 Banqiao corpse-dismemberment case but continued to aid in search and rescue efforts for lost hikers before retiring in August of this year.
K9 handler Lin Zhi-lun (林志倫) said that he’s been waiting for his own duty retirement for a long time and expressed his happiness that he can be with Fuxing.
On the other end of the island, Kaohsiung also held a calendar launch featuring Roger, a search and rescue dog who most recently participated in the Hualien earthquake relief.
Kaohsiung City Fire Chief Wang Zhi-ping (王志平) commended Roger for his shining talent and performance during active duty. He said that Roger, at nine years old, will be retiring at the end of 2024, so the fire department is holding an adoption event to help him find a good retirement family.
