A fire dancer from Taiwan has gained international recognition performing at European arts festivals and earning invitations to seven more in 2024.

Kuo Chieng-hung (郭建宏), a fire dancer from Kaohsiung, is making waves internationally with his extraordinary performances. After showcasing his skills at two major European arts festivals last year, Kuo has been invited to seven more in 2024, becoming the first Taiwanese artist to appear at these prestigious events.

The 31-year-old discovered fire dancing 11 years ago while studying business management and turned his passion into a career. His mesmerizing performances have captivated audiences across Europe, earning him a feature in the promotional video for a prominent Polish arts festival. Curators hailed his act as one of the best performances they had seen.

Kuo ends each show by proudly declaring, “I am from Taiwan,” often met with thunderous applause. Beyond his artistry, he carries up to 45 kilograms of gear, including equipment and fuel, to deliver his shows. Despite the physical demands, Kuo remains committed to sharing his craft globally.

At every festival he attends, Kou places a sticker of Taiwan’s logo on the event’s photo wall, symbolizing his mission to bring Taiwan’s culture to the world stage. With passion and determination, Kou is illuminating Taiwan’s name in the international arts scene.
