Former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) has returned to Taiwan after attending the Halifax International Security Forum (HISF) in Canada. She arrived early Tuesday morning, waving to reporters but making no formal remarks.
During her speech at the forum, Tsai addressed the uncertainties facing the international community, stressing the need for global cooperation to resolve conflicts and adapt to change. She called on democratic nations to work together to counter the challenges posed by increasingly centralized authoritarian regimes.
Tsai also expressed Taiwan’s willingness to collaborate with partners who share its vision and values. She announced that the HISF will, for the first time, be held in Taiwan next February.
In 2021 the forum awarded Tsai the John McCain Public Service Leadership Award. At the time, she was unable to attend due to her role as president and pandemic restrictions, but thanked the forum for recognizing Taiwan’s democracy.
