The APEC summit in Peru wrapped up on Saturday, but not without controversy. During the event, an advertisement placed by Taiwan’s representative office in Lima became the target of malicious vandalism.

Seventeen Chinese nationals were reportedly responsible for the destruction of a Taiwanese advertisement in Lima, which included cutting off power to a large billboard for up to 40 minutes.

This act of sabotage quickly caught the attention of local media. A major headline on a Peruvian news website read, "Chinese nationals attack Taiwan advertisement after Xi Jinping's arrival in Lima," while local TV stations broadcast footage of the suspects.

Upon learning of the incident, Taiwan’s representative office in Peru immediately contacted the police and boosted security at eight other advertising locations in Lima. The office also issued a strong condemnation of China’s actions, calling them a blatant violation of democratic norms.

Despite this pressure, Taiwan’s delegation and representative office remained resolute. In the face of Chinese suppression, they continue to fight tirelessly to navigate Taiwan’s challenging international situation and assert its place on the global stage.
