Taiwan is set to become a super-aged society next year, with 20% of the population aged 65 and older. In response, the government is advancing its Long-term Care 3.0 initiative, aiming to create an integrated system that combines home care, community services, institutional care, and healthcare.

The Taiwan Home Care Service Strategy Alliance held a press conference on Wednesday, calling for reforms to improve the quality and accessibility of home care services. Key proposals include better quality management, increased pay and career opportunities for care workers, flexible payment systems, and professional evaluation mechanisms.

Alliance Chairperson Tu Hsin-ning (涂心寧) highlighted a growing concern that while the demand for long-term care is rising, the number of care workers is not keeping pace, with growth rates dropping sharply in recent years.

Ruling and opposition lawmakers attended, pledging to monitor the Health Ministry to ensure these reforms are implemented. The alliance hopes the government will act quickly to address these pressing challenges as Taiwan prepares for its aging future.
