President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) met with a delegation from Denmark on Friday, led by former Danish Parliamentary speaker Pia Kjarsgaard. Lai expressed hope for closer collaboration with Denmark to safeguard democracy and freedom, assuring that Taiwan is committed to maintaining regional peace and stability.
Lai welcomed Kjærsgaard back to Taiwan for the ninth time, thanking her for her unwavering support and adding that her advocacy for Taiwan in the Danish parliament has helped increase international support.
Lai expressed hopes for stronger cooperation between Taiwan and Denmark, especially in green energy, with Denmark recognized as a global leader in offshore wind power. He says Taiwan has been actively developing its green energy sector, and Danish firms have increased investments in Taiwan. Lai expressed optimism for continued cooperation in green energy, net-zero transformation, and trade to advance both nations' democratic values, while contributing to global stability.
Kjærsgaard reaffirmed Denmark’s friendship with Taiwan, recognizing the challenges Taiwan faces and emphasizing the importance of U.S. support. She pledged that Denmark will remain a trusted partner and hinted at a future visit where she hopes to celebrate Taiwan-Denmark ties in a commemorative gathering.
