TSMC founder Morris Chang (張忠謀) attended National Taiwan University's (NTU) 96th anniversary celebration on Friday, where he commented on the progress of the company’s Arizona semiconductor facility. Speaking to reporters, Chang confirmed that the construction is proceeding well but added that a completion ceremony is unlikely.
TSMC’s first wafer fabrication plant in Arizona is set to begin mass production in early 2025. Previous reports suggested that TSMC planned to host a completion ceremony in December, but recent updates indicate the event has been postponed.
TSMC had declined to comment on the speculation on Thursday, stating that any public events would be announced officially. Investigations revealed that no formal invitations have been issued to vendors.
Chang, addressing the media ahead of the NTU event, reiterated that while progress on the Arizona plant is going smoothly, the company does not anticipate holding a formal completion ceremony.
The NTU celebration included conferring an honorary doctorate to Fubon Group Chairman Daniel Tsai (蔡明忠). The event also recognized 10 outstanding alumni and presented special awards for student contributions to social service.
