President Lai presides over military leadership appointment ceremony

President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) presided over a significant military leadership ceremony at the Presidential Office on Thursday, announcing key appointments in Taiwan’s armed forces. The ceremony marked the promotion of three senior military officials with Air Force Commander General Liu Jen-yuan (劉任遠) being appointed as presidential strategic advisor, Deputy Air Force Commander General Cheng Jung-feng (鄭榮豐) assuming the role of Air Force Commander, and Lieutenant General Huang Chih-wei (黃志偉) being promoted to second-rank general and appointed as Executive Deputy Chief of the General Staff.

Lieutenant General Huang, a distinguished graduate of the Air Force Academy’s class of 1987 and the U.S. Air War College of 2010, brings extensive experience to his new role. His previous positions include chief of staff of the Air Force command, commander, and Deputy Commander of the Air Force, demonstrating his comprehensive understanding of air defense operations. 

During the ceremony, President Lai emphasized that the three stars on a general’s insignia represent not only the highest honor but also tremendous responsibility. He particularly acknowledged the families of the newly appointed generals for their unwavering support, which has allowed these leaders to fully dedicate themselves to national defense. 

The President outlined his expectations for the new leadership to leverage their expertise and experience in modernizing and enhancing the Air Force's capabilities. He specifically emphasized the importance of introducing modern and intelligent innovations while strengthening Taiwan’s overall air defense combat capabilities, ultimately contributing to a more robust armed forces.
