The Economic Ministry released a statement on Monday regarding reports that an unidentified source for news platforms such as Reuters claimed SpaceX has asked its Taiwanese suppliers to relocate production facilities off the island due to geopolitical tensions. After promptly contacting relevant Taiwanese suppliers, the ministry confirmed that no such relocation requests were made by SpaceX. The ministry advised the public against overinterpreting or embellishing unverified reports, emphasizing the importance of sourcing accurate information.

In a press release, the Economic Ministry highlighted that Taiwan’s electronics and ICT industries are integral to global supply chains, especially in sectors like semiconductors and electronic components. Regarding the latter, the ministry identified 46 companies that supply parts such as materials, PCBs, antennas, cables, and power units to SpaceX and other international satellite and telecom operators, supporting a broad, multi-orbit satellite network.

The Economic Ministry further noted that, in response to the U.S. and China’s economic rivalry and political decoupling, Taiwanese companies have rapidly diversified production across multiple countries. Since 2021, the government has supported 30 system and component manufacturers to develop a range of satellite ground equipment for home, automotive, marine, and aviation use, aiming for the capacity to adapt swiftly to changes in the global supply chain landscape.
