A feast for the eyes and the stomach. This lavish seafood spread known locally as the "Gout Feast," is what competitors in Penghu’s Cross-Sea Marathon chowed down on last weekend. The first Sunday of November saw a record-breaking 4,000 participants from 16 countries run in Penghu’s seventh annual marathon.
Tables piled high with vibrant sushi, massive lobsters, and a colorful array of seafood awaited the athletes, who eagerly captured photos with the large lobsters.
Participants ran with added enthusiasm, driven not only by the spirit of competition but also by the promise of a seafood reward. One runner admitted to pushing himself faster for the chance to dive into the seafood feast, while another joked about almost abandoning the race midway to start feasting sooner.
Spectators were there to cheer along the route, as runners paused to savor bites of seafood before continuing on.
The racecourse offered breathtaking views of Penghu's coastal landscape, so runners could enjoy the sights, with plenty of seafood shellebrations after crossing the finish line.
