The European Commission released its report on strengthening Europe's civilian and military preparedness and readiness, highlighting China’s ambitions toward Taiwan and the escalating tensions in the region.

Authored by former President of the Republic of Finland and Special Adviser to the President of the European Commission Sauli Niinistö, the report spans nine chapters. Taiwan-specific content examines EU-China trade ties and Europe’s reliance on Taiwan for critical sectors like semiconductors, underscoring the severe global impacts of any Chinese aggression or blockade of Taiwan.

The Foreign Ministry lauded the EU’s willingness to strengthen cooperation and highlighted Taiwan's role as a responsible international community member. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Jeff Liu (劉永健) stated that together Taiwan and the EU can defend a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region and uphold peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, as well as rules-based international order.

This stance from the European Commission aligns with last week’s statement by Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights Nicolas Schmit, who addressed the European Parliament on behalf of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and European Commission Vice President Josep Borrell. Schmit reiterated that UN Resolution 2758 does not have any bearing on Taiwan’s participation in the UN or other international organizations.
