As Typhoon Kong-rey reaches Taiwan, Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) has expanded flood warnings to 10 counties, urging local governments to be fully prepared.

In a meeting with the Central Emergency Operation Center (CEOC), Cho stressed the importance of high vigilance as heavy rains are expected to continue into Friday.

The CEOC has issued flood warnings for Thursday and Friday across 10 cities and counties, covering 42 townships in northern, eastern, and western Taiwan. This includes Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, Chiayi and Yunlin counties, as well as New Taipei, Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, and Tainan cities.

Premier Cho also directed proactive measures for transportation safety, particularly on railways and construction sites, alongside quick restoration after the storm. Response teams are also deploying pumps, generators and equipment to ensure essential services. Cho added that measures are underway to contain an oil spill from a grounded Chinese vessel to prevent environmental damage.
