Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) is visiting Miaoli on Friday to assess the progress of Taiwan’s Asia Silicon Valley Development Plan 3.0 which was approved on September 30.  In response to Miaoli County Mayor Chung Tung-chin’s (鍾東錦) concerns over local talent development, transportation, as well as water and electricity supply shortages, Cho says that the National Science and Technology Council has been instructed to appoint a deputy chairman to work with local representatives on solutions.

Cho emphasizes that from a geographical point of view, Taiwan is small, but from a technological point of view, Taiwan punches above its weight. Under the policy concept of a "Balanced Taiwan", the Cabinet’s long-term technology corridor development will include the Zhunan, Toufen, and Houlong Townships, creating Taiwan’s version of a silicon valley extending from Hsinchu south along the western coast.

Regarding the utility supply problem in Miaoli, Cho emphasizes that in addition to traditional generation and logistics, further development of diversified green energy, deep energy conservation and storage, and stronger power grid resilience are equally important. The premier says that he hopes the Asia Silicon Valley Development Plan 3.0 will connect the area, previously only known in the agricultural industry, with the world.
