How much could one tactical shield be worth? Taiwan’s newly imported high-tech equipment serves to enhance combat readiness.

Video script:

The Criminal Investigation Bureau has received its first set of shields made in the United States with the latest cutting-edge technology. The new shields aim to keep special forces safe through thermal imaging and light features, as well as enhanced bulletproofing that protects against rifles and steel core ammunition.

Special forces can disperse the shield’s 8.8-kg (19.4 lb) weight through a hanging mechanism. A powerful strobe light is equipped at the front to disorient aggressors and prevent officers’ positions and actions from being exposed. A thermal imaging camera allows officers to stay behind the shield while still locating enemy positions, even in the dark.

One special tactical unit member shares how using such a shield can save physical energy and extend mission times. Previously, police officers equipped with tactical shields would form a human wall at the front to defend colleagues behind, but these new shields allow them to wield firearms as well.

A single shield may pack the price of NT$600,000 (US$18,710), but the upgrades should significantly enhance combat readiness.
