The ceremonial torch arrived in Tainan on Monday—not the Olympic flame, but the torch for the 2024 Citizens Sports Games, to be hosted this year in Pingtung.
Pingtung County Mayor Chou Chun-mi (周春米) and Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) led the tribute ceremony, where Mayor Chou passed the torch to Mayor Huang. Then, Tainan's torchbearers set off to continue the relay, which began in Xiao Liuqiu on October 5.
The 2024 Citizens Sports Games are set to begin this Saturday and will run until next Thursday. The torch will first return to Pingtung County on Wednesday, for a three-day relay, further blessing the athletes as they prepare for the upcoming competition.
Mayor Huang expressed their hopes for a smooth torch relay and wished success for the nation's athletes, encouraging them to shine brightly during the competition. He also thanked Mayor Chou and the Pingtung teams for their dedication in organizing the event.
Mayor Chou extended a warm invitation to the more than 13,000 athletes, encouraging them to showcase their talents and hard work. She emphasized Pingtung's role as a welcoming host and invited people from across the country to witness the athletes’ efforts and brilliance.
