Taiwan is getting ready for a musical celebration. The 8th annual World Music Festival @ Taiwan (WMFT) will take place this Friday to Sunday. Organized by the Culture Ministry and Wind Music, this year's event promises a diverse lineup of over 100 musicians from Taiwan and abroad. Under the theme "Groove to Your Addiction," the festival aims to showcase a wide range of musical styles and foster cultural exchange.
WMFT will feature 28 performances from 11 countries across Asia, Europe, and North America. Headliners include the Neapolitan trio Suonno D'Ajere, Afro-Congolese electro pioneer Kizaba, and the New York Times-acclaimed Namgar from Buryatia. The festival will also highlight local talent, with 16 Taiwanese showcase groups selected from 169 applicants. These artists will have the opportunity to perform alongside international acts and potentially catch the eye of global industry professionals. Attendees can also look forward to Earth Bazaars, a cultural marketplace featuring artisanal crafts and international cuisine.
WMFT also serves as a vital networking platform for the industry. The event will host two international forums and introduce a new Music Roundtable, where 18 international delegates will join local professionals to discuss topics such as artist mobility, technological innovation, and music documentation. This highlights WMFT's role in boosting Taiwan's presence in the global music scene.
