Taiwan ranks as the world’s 14th richest country in 2024, according to Forbes' ranking released on Monday. The ranking shows Taiwan surpassing regional neighbors like Hong Kong, China, Japan, and South Korea.
Rankings are based on per capita GDP estimated by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and adjusted for purchasing power parity (PPP).
European nations dominated the top 10, claiming five spots, while four Asian countries or regions made the cut. Luxembourg took the top position globally with a per capita GDP of US$143,740. Macao ranked second with US$134,140, and Ireland followed in third place with US$133,900.
Singapore, Qatar, and the UAE ranked fourth through sixth, respectively. Switzerland, San Marino, and Norway came in at seventh, eighth and tenth respectively. The United States was the only North American country to make the top 10, placing ninth with a per capita GDP of US$85,370.
Taiwan’s per capita GDP reached US$76,860, positioning it just behind Brunei in 13th and ahead of Hong Kong in 15th with a per capita GDP of US$75,130.
