Shin Kong Wu Ho-Su Memorial Hospital’s Deputy Superintendent Hung Tzu-jen (洪子仁) led a delegation to Myanmar on Saturday for a four-day visit. The hospital signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with local medical institutions to enhance cooperation in personnel training, medical referrals, and remote consultations.
The delegation also included representatives from Taiwan’s leading medical device manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies, aiming to identify suitable locations for business partnerships and promote ongoing international medical collaboration.
Hung says local Myanmar hospitals have expressed interest in Taiwan’s medical equipment, noting that Taiwan's effective pandemic response has drawn international attention to its healthcare expertise. Hung expressed hope for meaningful cooperation with Myanmar through medical exchanges.
The delegation met with Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Myanmar Representative Chou Chung-hsing (周中興) on Monday. In his remarks, Chou emphasized that diplomacy extends from domestic policy, stressing the need for substantive cooperation between Taiwan and Myanmar, especially in the absence of formal diplomatic relations.
Chou pointed out Myanmar's population of over 60 million and the stark differences in its medical environment compared to Taiwan. He underscored the existing medical needs in Myanmar and the importance of local doctors gaining new medical knowledge. He acknowledged that significant medical cooperation could enhance diplomatic efforts and expressed a strong desire to promote collaboration in the medical field between the two sides.
