Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO) celebrated Taiwan’s National Day on Wednesday at Twin Oaks in Washington D.C. During the event, Ingrid Larson, Managing Director of American Institute in Taiwan’s (AIT) Washington Office, expressed condolences to the victims of Typhoon Krathon in Taiwan. She also thanked Taiwan for supporting Americans affected by Hurricane Helena.
The evening festivities at Twin Oaks recreated a Taiwanese night market atmosphere, featuring nostalgic games like dice throwing and dart shooting. Guests enjoyed Taiwanese culinary delights and Taiwan Beer. A special cocktail inspired by the 45th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act was also served. Larson emphasized that AIT's attendance at this event, regardless of administration changes, symbolizes the enduring friendship and partnership between the U.S. and Taiwan.
With the U.S. election approaching on November 5, over 90 Congress members extended their well wishes through messages and letters. House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed pride in considering Taiwan a great partner and hoped for continued cooperation in building a prosperous and stable Indo-Pacific region and world.
Representative to the U.S. Alexander Tah-ray Yui (俞大㵢) highlighted Taiwan-U.S. relations, noting potential for growth based on shared interests and values like democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. He thanked the U.S. for its support, citing recent legislative actions like the Taiwan Conflict Deterrence Act. Yui emphasized Taiwan’s strategic position in the first island chain of the Pacific, standing at the forefront against authoritarian regimes. He also called for concrete actions from democratic partners to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
