President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) attended the 2024 Excellent Teacher Award and Outstanding Educator Recognition Ceremony at Yangmingshan Zhongshan Hall on Thursday. In his speech, he congratulated the winners and expressed his gratitude to the nation’s teachers on behalf of the government.
Lai said that the government is striving to implement a number of education-based initiatives, including improving physical and mental healthcare for children, expanding investment in technical and vocational education, and reducing the burden of higher education fees. He pointed out that adapting teaching methods to the digital age has been one of the biggest challenges facing teachers today.
Teachers who received awards at the ceremony included Tainan Municipal South District Sishu Elementary School Principal Huang Huai-hui (黃懷慧), and Changhua County Beidou Elementary School teacher Yeh Chih-wei (葉志偉). Wang Chou-mei (王州美), a member of the Puyuma tribe who was originally a teacher at Taipei Municipal Shuangyong Elementary School and recently retired after three decades, was a recipient of the Education Dedication Award.
