On Wednesday, representatives from Taiwan, the United States, Japan, Australia, and Canada convened in Taipei for the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) Joint Committee meeting.

Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that the gathering focused on planning projects for the coming year and discussing strategic directions as the framework approaches its 10th anniversary. The United Kingdom participated as an observer for the second consecutive year.

The committee has identified several important areas for cooperation in 2025. These include combating emerging drug crimes and money laundering, building societal resilience, advancing green trade for net-zero emissions, enhancing public-private partnerships in humanitarian aid and disaster prevention, and countering foreign information manipulation and interference.

The meeting also served as a platform to exchange ideas on upgrading and refining the framework’s development strategy. Wang Liang-yu (王良玉), director-general of the Department of North American Affairs, emphasized the Foreign Ministry’s commitment to expanding interactions and capacity-building cooperation with like-minded countries through the GTCF platform.

The GTCF, established by Taiwan and the U.S. in 2015, has attracted growing international interest. Canada attended as an observer in 2023 and officially joined as a formal member in August 2024. Taiwan welcomes the participation of like-minded countries in this endeavor to tackle global challenges through a collaborative platform.
