China test-fired an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Wednesday morning. The missile carried a simulated warhead and landed in the Pacific Ocean. Taiwan’s Defense Ministry confirmed it was closely monitoring the missile launch, along with other recent military exercises by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
According to Chinese State Media Xinhua News Agency, the PLA’s Rocket Force successfully fired the ICBM at 8:44 a.m. targeting an area in the Pacific's international waters. The launch was part of the Rocket Force's annual training exercise and was designed to test weaponry performance and troop readiness, achieving its expected goal. Xinhua also reported that China had notified relevant countries in advance.
Taiwan's Defense Ministry reiterated that it had kept a close watch on the recent missile tests and military drills conducted by the PLA. The ministry added that it had deployed appropriate response measures, including patrol aircraft, naval vessels, and land-based missile systems to ensure national security.
