Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) outlined the country’s diplomatic approach towards Africa during an Africa Night event on Tuesday.
Lin says that President Lai Ching-te’s (賴清德) administration aims to build Taiwan into a country with an evergreen economy. In line with this, the Foreign Ministry has proposed a comprehensive diplomatic strategy based on three pillars–value-based diplomacy, alliance diplomacy, and economic and trade diplomacy.
Lin adds that a key aspect of this strategy is exporting Taiwan’s expertise to allied and friendly nations, alongside introducing emerging concepts such as carbon credits and AI to stimulate local industrial development. He says that the focus on prosperity and dignity for Taiwan’s allies will remain central in its diplomatic efforts in Africa.
The Africa Night event was organized by the Africa Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce (ATCC). Lin highlighted ATCC's important role in strengthening Taiwan’s economic ties and relations with African nations. Lin says that the ministry will continue working closely with the ATCC to boost Taiwan’s visibility in Africa and beyond. He adds that this aims to help Taiwanese businesses expand into African markets and create more opportunities for collaboration.
