WATCH: 2-meter crocodile captured in Pingtung after 3-hour chase
A massive crocodile was spotted lurking in the Gaoping River in Pingtung County.

Taiwanese rivers are known to be home to some snakes, but who would have expected the sudden appearance of a large reptile?

Video script:

Residents of Pingtung County were shocked to discover a massive crocodile lurking in the Gaoping River. The formidable reptile, identified as a spectacled caiman, measured an impressive 2.07 meters in length and weighed a staggering 54 kilograms.

The locals who spotted it were frightened and immediately notified the Agriculture Ministry. Local authorities sprang into action upon receiving reports of the crocodile sighting in Wandan Township. A team of experts dispatched by the Pingtung County government engaged in a tense three-hour operation to capture the elusive creature. Using chicken as bait, they eventually managed to secure and subdue the powerful reptile.

Eyewitnesses described the dramatic scene, saying the caiman swallowed the whole chicken in one gulp. However, the story doesn't end there. Some reports suggest that up to five more crocodiles may be at large in the vicinity. County officials have intensified patrols and urged residents to remain vigilant, requesting immediate notification of any further sightings. The origin of these crocodiles remains a mystery, with speculation ranging from abandoned pets to escapees from an unknown source.
