The Legislature officially opened its session on Friday morning, with Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) and Cabinet ministers set to deliver their reports and answer questions from lawmakers. The session will revolve around discussions on next year’s general budget and appointments for the National Communications Commission (NCC) and Examination Yuan.

Opposition party lawmakers from the KMT and the TPP have already expressed their intent to stringently scrutinize and review the various proposals. In response to this, Premier Cho said that while legislative oversight is essential, it should be carried out professionally and with mutual respect to foster healthy dialogue between the two branches.

Cho hopes that communications between the Legislature and the Cabinet will be from the point of view of public interest. He said that reports are based on standard operations of national institutions and organizations as well as expectations of future legislative agendas. He emphasized that the public wants to see harmonious interactions between the executive and legislative branches and reiterated that the legislature should not be a battleground for political factions.
