Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislators will sign a motion opposing China's distortion of United Nations Resolution 2758. During a press conference on Wednesday, DPP Legislators Chiu Yi-ying (邱議瑩), Lin Chu-yin (林楚茵), Su Chiao-hui (蘇巧慧) and Puma Shen (沈伯洋) announced their effort to counter China's distortion of the resolution.

Chiu urged all political parties in Taiwan to set aside their differences and support the motion, emphasizing the importance of demonstrating Taiwan's unity on the international stage. Chiu says that Resolution 2758 should not prevent Taiwan from gaining global recognition.

Legislator Su says the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC) passed a model resolution addressing UN Resolution 2758 in July. In August, Australia's Senate approved a motion based on the IPAC model, followed by the Dutch Parliament adopting a similar motion. Su expressed hope that this petition would inspire further efforts to expand Taiwan's international space. With a new Legislative session set to begin soon, she also called on Taiwan’s political parties to set aside their differences and collaborate for the good of Taiwan’s international affairs.

Lin expressed disappointment in the Kuomintang (KMT) caucus's claim that the petition could heighten cross-strait tensions. She urged the KMT to join the petition, arguing that doing so could help shed its pro-China image, and called the Taiwan People's Party to do the same for Taiwan's benefit.

Shen clarified that UN Resolution 2758 adopted in 1971 does not mention the Republic of China (Taiwan), and should not be used to block Taiwan’s participation in international organizations.
