Taiwan’s Defense Ministry confirmed on Wednesday that Chinese Navy vessels led by the Liaoning aircraft carrier sailed through the waters northeast of Taiwan at 1:30 a.m. and continued toward the southeast of Japan's Yonaguni Island.
In addition, the ministry also reported the presence of nine Chinese military aircraft, 13 Chinese military vessels, and one official ship operating around Taiwan. While monitoring the activity from 6 a.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday, six of the aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait.
The ministry said it is closely monitoring the situation. Air and naval patrols have been deployed together with land-based missile systems in response to the activities.
