The Transportation Ministry is implementing new pedestrian priority areas beginning October as part of a new set of provisions to make roads safer for pedestrians.

The pedestrian priority areas will be marked by blue and white signs which will also be coupled with speed limit signs. The new signs were modeled after road signs in Austria and South Korea. The Transportation Ministry says the speed limit will be set at 20 kilometers per hour in these zones, and honking will be prohibited.

The set of new provisions includes other stipulations such as those regarding yellow grid lines and speeding fines.

The Transportation Ministry stated that the public will be notified three days ahead of implementation, and the new signs are expected to be rolled out in October.
