For World Alzheimer's Month, the Taiwan Alzheimer’s Disease Association (TADA) organized a special 2-week exhibition titled “Memory Expedition: Through the Fog of Time.” The event was held at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Taipei from August 28 to September 11.
Notably, young author Yen Wei-hsuan (顏維萱) was invited to host a signing event on September 6 for her picture book “Mama, I Don’t Want to Leave!”. Yen, an 11th grade student at Taipei American School, shared her love for reading and drawing picture books with the audience. Her grandmother’s Alzheimer’s disease led her to volunteer at the day care center for the elderly at Kainan High School. Yen was inspired by the hopeful elderly students and authored a picture book to encourage Alzheimer’s patients as well as their caregivers.
The signing event attracted about 100 people, including those concerned about dementia, family members of dementia sufferers, and students and teachers from the caregiving and culinary departments of Kainan High School, in addition to Yen’s parents, art teacher, and the superintendent of Kainan High School.
TADA Secretary General Chen Yun-ching (陳筠靜) praised Yen’s picture book and highlighted its role in raising awareness for dementia, adding that the value of existence is not merely in being remembered but also in the impact we make during our lives.
