The 91-year-old Puzi Rongchang Theater was engulfed in flames late last month, a blaze that was visible across Chiayi. This week the story has made its way back into the news due to a photo of one of the firefighters.
Kneeling down on the ground, local fire brigade leader Tsai Shao-wen (蔡紹文) is pictured cooling down by spraying himself with a hose after 3.5 hours of fighting the fire in full gear and hot summer weather.
The one who captured the moment, Chen Chun-che (陳俊哲), says it was how the sight moved him that made him want to take the photo.
The moment frozen in time has been admired by netizens, who have expressed respect for over 10,000 firefighters in Taiwan who put themselves in harm’s way in order to protect the public.
