Attendees at Changhua County’s braised pork rice festival snatch up highly sought-after commemorative prizes by consuming large amounts of the dish.

Changhua County's 2024 Changhua Kong Rou Fan Festival (braised pork belly rice) has become a hot topic after its commemorative bowls were snatched up rapidly. The festival offered a special deal: eat 20 bowls of braised pork rice, collect stamps from participating restaurants, and receive a limited-edition commemorative bowl and keychain. However, just 10 days into the event, all 300 commemorative bowls have been claimed.
The popularity of these items has led to some of them being sold online. One offer lists the commemorative bowl and keychain for NT$2,000 (US$62). Many residents consider these items to be priceless mementos. The Changhua County government, which organized the event, stated that they might not produce additional bowls, and urged those who received them to cherish the items, as they could become irreplaceable collectibles.
A successful participant, Mr. Zhang (張), shared his experience of eating braised pork rice for three meals a day for several days to collect the required stamps. The bowl, inscribed with “Kong Rou Hero” serves as a testament to his dedication.
