Pingtung County's Xiaoliuqiu Island is bustling with activity these days as it prepares for the arrival of a king.

A grand procession weaves through the streets as worshippers eagerly welcome the many deities and gods back onto the island with firecrackers.
Happening once every three years, the King's Welcome and Peace Festival has entered its second day with a procession from Daliaojiao. Devout believers walk under the palanquin to receive blessings.
Along the route, incense tables are set up to welcome the deity with drinks, and various snacks, and refreshments generously provided to participants to replenish their energy.
With nearly 100 temples joining the event, thousands of devotees are in attendance for the week-long ceremony to pray for safety and health and request protection from evil spirits, plagues, and misfortune.
