The Foreign Ministry’s 2024 youth ambassador delegation attended Guatemala’s National Palace of Culture on Tuesday, meeting with Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo.

The Foreign Ministry’s Department of NGO International Affairs Director General Andy Kang-I Chen (陳剛毅) led the delegation of 50 students from various universities across Taiwan. This was the first time the youth delegation visited two Central American allies–Belize and Guatemala.

The youth ambassadors showcased Taiwan's cultural heritage through performances in traditional instruments, martial arts, dance, and tea ceremonies. Their music and dance highlighted various aspects of Taiwan's culture. They also impressed the audience with coffee art featuring Guatemala's national bird, the Resplendent Quetzal.

Taiwan’s representative to Guatemala, Chang Chun-fei (張俊菲), says that since 2009 Taiwan has selected young ambassadors every year and highlighted their role in fostering cultural exchange and cooperation between Taiwan and Guatemala.

The delegation also visited Guatemala’s Foreign Ministry and discussed global warming and environmental protection with students at Universidad del Valle.
