A symposium titled ‘An Election that Influences the World: Taiwan and the 2024 U.S. Election,’ co-organized by the Asia Pacific Youth Association (APYA), the DPP’s Youth Development Department, the KMT’s Youth League, and the TPP’s Youth Department, was held on Monday to discuss and clarify possible outcomes and how they will affect Taiwan.

DPP Legislator Wang Ting-yu (王定宇) spoke at the symposium, saying that no matter who is elected as U.S. president in November, the support that Taiwan has received from both parties can confirm that there will be no major changes in their policies toward Taiwan. Wang, who attended the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, elaborated that the U.S. regards China as a competitor and possible threat to global interests. He said that whether Trump or Harris is in power will not change the trends that Taiwan has experienced in the past nine years.

Also having attended the Republican and Democratic conventions in the U.S., KMT think tank deputy CEO Ling Tao (凌濤) added that talks are continuing between Taiwan, the U.S., and China, lowering tensions in the Taiwan Strait. He pointed out National Security Council Secretary-General Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) and Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung’s (林佳龍) recent visit to Washington, and U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan’s upcoming visit to Beijing.

TPP legislator Chang Chi-kai (張啓楷) revealed his analysis of recent polls, ratings, and betting markets that Vice President Kamala Harris is currently ahead of Donald Trump. He detailed that he believes her momentum may be affected by Robert Kennedy Jr.’s campaign suspension and endorsement of Trump, approaching TV debates, and any economic inflation ahead of the vote.
