The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and Japan's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) are set to convene their fifth round of talks on diplomatic and national defense policies on Wednesday in Tokyo. That’s according to a DPP press release issued on Tuesday.
Legislators Kuo Kuo-wen (郭國文) and Puma Shen (沈伯洋) will represent the DPP side while the Japanese side will be represented by LDP lawmakers Kikawada Hitoshi and Fujii Hisayuki. The goal of the talks is to strengthen bilateral partnerships and conduct in-depth discussions on regional issues, societal resilience, and Taiwan-Japan cooperation, among other matters.
DPP Secretary-General Lin Yu-chang (林右昌) pointed out that the talks are a vital channel for direct party-to-party exchanges. He highlighted that Taiwan and Japan share core values of democracy, freedom, and the rule of law, and must stand united in addressing natural disasters and regional security threats.
Initiated in 2021, the meeting has become a regular forum for direct communication between the ruling parties of Taiwan and Japan, underscoring the robust development of their relationship.
